WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows users to watch video Status updates at double speed. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for users who frequently browse through lengthy video updates shared by friends and contacts. The feature is being rolled out to selected beta testers on iOS, enabling a more efficient viewing experience.

To activate the 2x playback, users need to press and hold the right side of the video Status while watching. This simple gesture instantly accelerates the video to twice its normal speed, and once the user releases their finger, the playback returns to its original speed. This design aims to give users greater control over their viewing experience without the need to adjust any settings.

The introduction of the 2x playback feature follows WhatsApp's recent upgrade that allows longer music clips of up to 30 seconds to be added to Status updates, a significant increase from the previous limit of 15 seconds. As users are likely to encounter longer videos and music clips, the new playback option offers a practical solution for navigating through numerous updates quickly.

This feature aligns WhatsApp more closely with other social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where similar playback controls are already familiar to users.
