Tragic domestic dispute leads to double death in Ogun State community
A pastor allegedly kills his wife over infidelity before taking his own life in Ogun State.

A shocking incident has left the Ogooluwa community in Akiode Ibogun, Ogun State, in mourning after Bidemi Odukoya, a pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ, allegedly killed his wife during a domestic dispute before taking his own life. The tragic events unfolded in the early hours of August 31, 2026, and have left residents grappling with disbelief and sorrow.
According to reports, the couple had been engaged in a heated argument around 2 a.m. when Odukoya allegedly attacked his wife with a machete, resulting in her death. Following the incident, he reportedly fled the scene and subsequently threw himself in front of a speeding truck on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, leading to his instant death.
The couple, who had lived in the community for nearly a decade, were well-regarded by their neighbors, making the incident all the more shocking. Chief Taiwo Akiode, the Baale of the community, expressed his disbelief, stating, "This unfortunate incident is the first of its kind in this environment. It is a tragedy of monumental proportion that no one saw coming."
Residents described the couple as friendly and respectful, with no prior indications of domestic strife. However, some community members later claimed that the couple had a history of frequent arguments, with allegations of infidelity surfacing as a potential motive for the fatal confrontation. Youth leader Seun Adelana noted that both parties had been accused of cheating, which may have escalated tensions leading to the tragic outcome.
A neighbor, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Oseni, revealed that she had previously intervened in their disputes, even assisting the wife after one particularly violent altercation. She recounted the harrowing moment when she discovered the wife’s body, stating, "By the time myself and one other neighbor got to the residence of the couple, we discovered the lifeless body of Mummy Daniel with a broken head, all covered in blood."
The couple's children, including their eldest son who reportedly alerted neighbors during the incident, are now left to grapple with the aftermath of this tragedy. Community leaders are calling for greater awareness and intervention in domestic disputes, urging couples to seek help before conflicts escalate to violence.
The police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident, with the case file being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry. ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, stated, "The command is very much aware of the case. The case file is currently being transferred to the SCID for diligent investigation into knowing the actual facts surrounding the sad incidents."
As the community mourns the loss of the couple, many are left questioning how such a horrific event could occur among individuals they believed to be loving and caring. The tragic end of Bidemi and his wife serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing marital issues before they lead to irreversible consequences.
