French authorities dismantle gang plotting to kidnap Kylian Mbappé and others
A criminal ring targeting footballer Kylian Mbappé and 25 other celebrities has been arrested in France.

French law enforcement has successfully disrupted a criminal gang that was allegedly plotting to kidnap several high-profile individuals, including Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé. The operation, which came to light through investigations by French authorities, revealed that the gang had targeted a total of 26 celebrities, comprising footballers, musicians, and affluent business figures.
According to reports from Le Parisien, the mastermind behind this audacious scheme is an 18-year-old identified as Clement L. This individual, who has a history of criminal activity, was previously incarcerated for armed robbery and was already in pre-trial detention for other serious charges, including pimping and organized robbery.
Despite being behind bars, Clement L managed to orchestrate the kidnapping plot from his cell. He reportedly used two mobile phones to communicate with accomplices via Snapchat, operating under the alias Lester Z. Authorities discovered a list of potential targets, which included not only Mbappé but also a Chinese businessman, various jewellers, and a Turkish meat trader.
A source familiar with the investigation revealed that prison guards seized the phones, uncovering critical evidence that outlined the gang's intentions. "Two phones were seized by prison guards, and their contents were highly revealing," the source stated. The gang's plans were described as extensive, with aspirations to target both a rapper and the footballer Mbappé.
In a surprising turn, when questioned about his role in the conspiracy, Clement L denied being the mastermind behind the plot and requested to be released from solitary confinement. His claims raise questions about the extent of his involvement and whether he was indeed operating independently or under the direction of others.
The arrest of this gang highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety of high-profile individuals in France, particularly as celebrity culture continues to attract criminal attention. Authorities are expected to continue their investigations to uncover any additional members of the gang and to ensure the safety of those targeted in this alarming plot.
