The Osun State Police Command has issued a statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding a viral video that purportedly depicts police officers fleeing from a drone. The Command asserts that the footage is not an operational incident but rather a scene from a Yoruba movie titled Omije Fun Omije Part 2, which was filmed in May 2026.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command explained that the video was misrepresented online. The footage shows an actor dressed in police uniform who temporarily exited a moving police patrol vehicle, ran after it, and boarded it. A bystander, who was not part of the film crew, recorded this scene and incorrectly captioned it as police officers escaping from a drone.

The police emphasized that the drone visible in the video was being used for the film production and had no connection to any law enforcement operations. The Command strongly rejected the narrative that serving officers were running away from a drone, labeling it as misleading and damaging to the reputation of the police force.

DSP Ojelabi criticized the dissemination of the video without proper verification, highlighting the importance of responsible journalism. "Investigative journalism requires verification before a clip is given a national or international frame. Publishing out-of-context footage and attaching a false explanation is not a minor error when it is used to ridicule a security institution," he stated.

The Osun State Police Command has called for those sharing the video to retract their claims and issue a correction to clarify that the footage originated from a movie production. They urged the public to refrain from presenting staged or unrelated footage as evidence of police misconduct or cowardice.

The Command reiterated its commitment to lawful and professional policing in Osun State, emphasizing its role in protecting lives and property. It expressed openness to factual reporting while warning against the deliberate distortion of images and videos that could tarnish the reputation of the police force. "What we will not accept is the deliberate distortion of images, videos or any media report to drag the Command through the mud," the statement concluded.
