In response to a series of violent incidents across Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has convened a meeting of the State Security Council to assess the current security situation. The meeting, held at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, involved key security personnel, including the Deputy Governor, heads of law enforcement agencies, and other notable officials, including the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.

The discussions focused on the recent attacks that have plagued various communities, particularly a deadly incident in Mangu Local Government Area. The Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with these attacks, and ongoing investigations aim to identify additional suspects.

Faniyan emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating it was part of the governor's efforts to ensure safety for residents and to maintain the state’s reputation as a peaceful destination for investors and tourists. He noted that the governor's role as the Chief Security Officer of the state necessitated regular reviews of the security landscape to implement necessary improvements.

"The Mangu case was very unfortunate. We prepared and deployed, but somehow, such incidents still occurred. That is part of why His Excellency called this meeting so that such must not happen again," Faniyan said. He highlighted the collaborative approach being taken by security agencies at both state and national levels, utilizing technological tools to analyze intelligence and track down those responsible for the violence.

The police commissioner reassured the public that security forces are committed to intensifying their efforts to safeguard lives and property. He urged residents to assist by providing timely and credible information regarding suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital for effective security operations.

As the ember months approach, along with heightened political activities in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, Faniyan noted that vigilance is paramount. The Security Council's objective is to enhance intelligence-led security measures designed to preemptively address potential threats.
