Researchers traced the clip back to a longer footage lasting seven minutes and 44 seconds, originally posted on a different Facebook page, Osogbo Updates. The full video clarified that Akpabio was not resigning from the APC; instead, he was reading a resignation letter from Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, the senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, who defected from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July 2026.

The misleading video has generated mixed reactions online, with comments ranging from skepticism about its authenticity to outright disbelief. One user, Christian Nnabugo, remarked, "AI at work. If he tries it, he's going to jail the next day," while another, Henry Paul, stated, "He can only leave when APC is no longer in power, but as long as APC is still in power, till death do part."

Further scrutiny of the situation revealed that neither Akpabio nor the APC has made any announcements regarding his resignation. The official social media accounts of the APC, the Nigerian Senate, and Akpabio himself remain silent on the matter, reinforcing the conclusion that the viral claim is false.
