A Nigerian doctor based in Canada, known as Zo, has shared a poignant reflection on his marriage, revealing how his friends once mocked his decision to marry his high school sweetheart 22 years ago. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), he recounted the skepticism he faced when he first moved to the United States shortly after getting married.

At the time, Zo was newly married and his wife was pregnant. Despite this significant life change, some of his friends advised him to reconsider his choice, suggesting he should have married a nurse in America instead. They argued that such a decision would have provided him with greater financial stability and security. "Some of my friends I met there were like, 'Why did you get married? You could have come over here so we can arrange a nurse for you. You already made a mistake,'" he recalled.

Despite the pressure and doubts from his peers, Zo remained steadfast in his commitment to his wife, whom he described as his partner through thick and thin. Fast forward to last week, he decided to reach out to these friends to catch up and inquire about their families. To his surprise, he learned that many of them had indeed married nurses but had since divorced.

Reflecting on this turn of events, Zo expressed a sense of vindication. He noted, "They started giving stories, and they’ve all divorced the nurse wives they married. Me that I look like I made a mistake 22 years ago, now am the one celebrating my 23 years anniversary next month."

His story has resonated with many online, sparking discussions about the importance of making personal choices based on one’s convictions rather than succumbing to external pressures. Zo's experience serves as a reminder that the path to happiness is often unique to each individual, and what may seem like a mistake to some can lead to a fulfilling and lasting relationship.

As he prepares to celebrate over two decades of marriage, Zo's journey highlights the value of commitment and the significance of staying true to one’s heart, regardless of societal expectations or peer influence.
