The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Uba Sani for attributing the state's current monthly debt deductions of N6.7 billion to the previous administration led by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The party insists that Sani should take full responsibility for the financial obligations stemming from a $350 million loan he previously supported.

In a statement released by the PDP state chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the party expressed its discontent with Sani's remarks made during an interview on Channels Television. Masha stated that while the governor's acknowledgment of the debt burden is appreciated, shifting blame to El-Rufai does not reflect effective leadership.

Masha highlighted that Uba Sani, while serving as a senator, played a crucial role in securing the approval of the loan in March 2020, after it had been rejected by the previous Senate. He noted that Sani had previously vouched for the prudent use of the funds under El-Rufai's administration, even going so far as to say, "hold me responsible if Governor Nasir El-Rufai fails or disappoints on this score."

The PDP chairman emphasized that it is contradictory for Sani to advocate for the loan and later distance himself from the financial consequences. "Governor Uba Sani cannot lead the campaign for a loan, publicly defend it, ask to be held responsible for its prudent utilisation, and then, years later, present the resulting repayment burden as though he had no role in the process," Masha stated.

Masha further urged the governor to focus on addressing the debt issue rather than engaging in a blame game. He called for transparency and accountability, stressing that the people of Kaduna State deserve clear explanations on how the current administration plans to manage the debt while ensuring essential services are maintained.

The PDP concluded by urging Sani to move forward with concrete solutions instead of looking back for excuses, asserting that the past cannot be rewritten and that he must confront the realities of the financial situation his government now faces.
