Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has pledged to implement the Oronsaye Committee Report should he win the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a statement released by his spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, Atiku emphasized the report's potential to significantly reduce waste and duplication within the Nigerian government, ultimately leading to a more efficient governance structure.

Atiku criticized the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of failing to act on the recommendations of the Oronsaye Report. He noted that instead of reducing the number of government agencies as proposed, the Tinubu administration has expanded them, even creating what he termed 'fake' agencies. Atiku expressed his commitment to ensuring that the Oronsaye Report does not gather dust but is actively utilized to reform the government.

He stated, "I will start implementing the Oronsaye Committee Report immediately after inauguration, with a transparent audit of the number and purpose of all the agencies of government in existence, especially in light of numerous fake agencies created by Tinubu's administration." Atiku's approach includes eliminating unnecessary government bodies, merging overlapping institutions, and cutting down the overall cost of governance.

The former Vice President also highlighted his intention to redirect the savings from these reforms towards critical sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social protection. He emphasized that the Nigerian populace should not be burdened with sacrifices while the government continues to waste resources.

In his statement, Atiku declared, "Nigeria does not need more promises. Nigeria needs action." He reiterated his commitment to reducing the cost of governance, starting with the maintenance of the presidency and all government officials. Atiku aims to lead by example, making the government more efficient and accountable, ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively for the benefit of all Nigerians.

As the 2027 elections approach, Atiku's promises reflect a significant shift in focus towards accountability and efficiency in governance, positioning him as a candidate committed to substantive reform rather than mere rhetoric.
