In a decisive move ahead of the 2027 general election, governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged their commitment to securing victory for President Bola Tinubu in their respective states. This commitment was made public by Hope Uzodinma, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, following a meeting with the President after the National Economic Council's 160th session in Abuja.

Uzodinma emphasized that the onus of delivering the election results lies squarely on the shoulders of the governors at the state level. "What we have agreed with Mr President is that he will be delivered. All the APC governors are solidly behind Mr President," he stated, indicating that the governors are aware of the specific needs and challenges within their states that will guide their campaign strategies.

The governors have recognized that a successful election campaign will require a blend of grassroots mobilization and effective coordination at the federal level. Uzodinma articulated the need for a collaborative effort, stating, "The responsibility of delivering the election lies on the shoulders of the governors at the subnational level, and it is a combination of what happens at the subnational level and the push at the national level that will yield the result we are looking for."

Echoing this sentiment, Abdullahi Sule, the Nasarawa State Governor, reinforced the governors' role in leading campaign efforts within their states. "Elections are not in Abuja. They are at the states. So the governors take the lead in this campaign at the various states," he remarked, highlighting the importance of localized strategies in the electoral process.

During the meeting, President Tinubu also briefed the governors on the formation of the Presidential Campaign Council, which has been met with unanimous support. This council, announced on August 22, 2026, includes Tinubu as chairman and Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman, with former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari serving as Director-General.

In addition to political strategies, discussions at the meeting also centered on governance issues, particularly the pressing need to address the rising cost of living in Nigeria. Uzodinma noted that the governors engaged in an impact assessment of existing reforms and identified areas for improvement, with a shared goal of enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.

"We spoke basically on two issues: one, politics, and the other, governance," Uzodinma explained. He emphasized that the focus on governance included critical topics such as food security, agricultural development, and ensuring that the benefits of governmental reforms reach the populace.

Furthermore, Sule highlighted President Tinubu's extensive knowledge regarding the country's gas resources, particularly in the context of compressed natural gas (CNG) utilization. The President's commitment to investing in gas resources was noted as a significant aspect of the discussions, which also included calls for party unity and poverty reduction strategies.

As the APC gears up for the official campaign period, which commenced on August 19, 2026, the governors' commitment to their roles in this upcoming election cycle is expected to play a crucial part in shaping the party's strategy and outreach efforts across Nigeria.
