In a shocking case of staged kidnapping, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a mother, Catherine Davou, and her accomplice, Nansik Wuyep Sule, for allegedly fabricating the abduction of her two-year-old son, Rito Jesse Davou. The arrests were made by operatives from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) following a detailed investigation into the incident.

According to a statement from CSP Ani Iniedu, the police spokesperson, the scheme involved a ransom demand that initially started at N7 million. However, as the investigation progressed, it was revealed that the child was being kept at Sule's residence, leading to a subsequent ransom demand of N15 million. The police acted swiftly, locating the child and ensuring his safe return after providing necessary medical attention. He has since been handed over to his biological father.

In addition to this case, the police also apprehended two other suspects, Idris Mohammed, also known as Yellow, and Mohammed Bello Adams, who are linked to a separate kidnapping incident involving a commercial driver, Idris Zakari Baba. This victim was reportedly lured under the guise of offering transportation from Abuja to Zaria, only to be intercepted by armed men and held for ransom. The kidnappers demanded N3 million, which was paid for his release.

The police were able to trace the victim's vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, to Bauchi State, where it was recovered while Mohammed was attempting to sell it. Investigations further connected these suspects to the kidnapping of Pastor David Dahni and his driver, Abdullahi Abubakar, for which a ransom of N10.5 million was reportedly paid.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges Nigeria faces with kidnapping and extortion crimes, as authorities continue to work diligently to combat such criminal activities. The swift actions of the police in these cases demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, particularly vulnerable individuals such as children.
