Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), officially launched his campaign for the 2027 elections during a press conference streamed live on his social media platforms. Obi called on Nigerians to demand transparency from all presidential candidates, insisting that they must be prepared to answer tough questions about their academic credentials and professional records.

During the event, Obi emphasized the importance of accountability, stating that every candidate should be willing to present their credentials and defend their records in front of the public. He remarked, "No candidate should hide behind the high walls of power, send proxies or surrogates to the hustings, and expect Nigerians to entrust them with the leadership of the country." His statements come amid ongoing scrutiny regarding the academic history of President Bola Tinubu, a topic that has resurfaced as the 2027 elections approach.

Obi's campaign is built around a comprehensive economic strategy that aims to shift Nigeria from a consumption-driven model to one focused on production and investment. He highlighted the potential of Nigeria's population of over 200 million people, arguing that this demographic should be harnessed to drive economic growth rather than squandered.

The NDC candidate outlined specific plans for regional development, stating that the North-west would prioritize agriculture and manufacturing, while the North-east would focus on reconstruction and restoration of livelihoods.
