In a significant operation aimed at curbing terrorism in Zamfara State, troops from the 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army apprehended two individuals suspected of terrorist activities. The arrests took place in the early hours of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

Acting spokesman for the operation, Yusuf Mohammed, reported that the troops were on a routine patrol when they encountered the suspects around 1:50 a.m. The arrested individuals, identified as Jabiru Hassan, 25, and Umaru Bello, 23, are both residents of Ilela village in the Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

The operation yielded substantial results, with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated Dane gun, and a variety of ammunition, including 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 18 cartridges. Additionally, troops seized a motorcycle, two Baofeng radio sets, a mobile phone, two MP3 players, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, a handbag, and N44,500 in cash.

Mohammed emphasized that the preliminary examination of the recovered mobile phone revealed photographs and videos that may have significant intelligence value. These materials are currently undergoing further analysis by relevant authorities to determine their implications and any potential connections to terrorist activities in the region.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to enhance security and prevent criminal elements from operating freely in Zamfara State, which has been plagued by violence and terrorism in recent years. The military's proactive measures aim to restore peace and stability in the area, ensuring the safety of residents and deterring future criminal activities.
