Gboyega Oyetola, the former Governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, has expressed his outrage over the recent killings in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area. The violence, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of two individuals, has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of residents in the region.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola condemned the attacks, describing them as a significant threat to the peace and democratic values that Osun State upholds. He emphasized that no political ambition or commercial interest could ever justify the loss of human lives, stating, "Politics must be a vehicle for development, not a catalyst for bloodshed."

Oyetola's remarks come in the wake of what he termed escalating post-election violence in various parts of the state. He called on the police and other security agencies to take immediate action to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence, ensuring that justice is served. The former governor urged the Osun State Police Command to deploy adequate personnel to volatile areas, reclaim public spaces from criminals, and restore order to the affected communities.

In his statement, Oyetola extended his condolences to the families of the victims and urged residents to remain calm, avoiding actions that could further escalate tensions in the area. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing peace and restraint among the populace, warning that political and commercial interests should not undermine the development and prosperity of Osun State.

Oyetola reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, security, and development of the state, urging citizens to collaborate in preserving Osun’s reputation for civility, enterprise, and democratic values. His call for unity and peace comes at a critical time when the state is grappling with the aftermath of violence that threatens to destabilize its communities.
