In response to a recent mass abduction in Niger State, President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate rescue operation to ensure the safe return of the victims. The directive was announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in a statement released from the State House on Tuesday.

The attack, which occurred during Friday prayers at the Kpenya Mosque in Gidan-Zana, Dekara District, Borgu Local Government Area, saw terrorists invade the mosque and abduct worshippers, including women, children, and the elderly. Reports indicate that the incident took place around 2 PM, prompting panic as residents fled into nearby forests to escape the violence. Among those abducted was the village head of Ka’ada, who had recently been released from captivity, as well as the 90-year-old father of the District Head of Dekar.

Condemning the attackers, President Tinubu referred to them as "enemies of peace and enemies of humanity." He expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the assault, stating, "I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who were killed in this barbaric assault and pray that Almighty God grant them eternal rest."

The President reassured the nation of the Federal Government's commitment to the victims' safe return, emphasizing that the government will not rest until all abductees are recovered. He stated, "You are not alone. The entire nation shares your anguish. We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you."

In his statement, Tinubu directed the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other relevant security agencies to collaborate on a coordinated rescue effort. He further asserted that Nigeria would not succumb to acts of terrorism, declaring, "Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life."

Tinubu also extended his prayers and support to the people of Niger State during this challenging time, assuring them that the Federal Government stands firmly with the state government to provide necessary assistance for recovery, relief, and enhanced security measures.
