In a significant operation, the Ogun State Police Command has successfully dismantled an alleged baby factory located in the Mowe area, rescuing two pregnant women and four children from a suspected human trafficking ring. The operation took place on Monday, August 24, 2026, following extensive intelligence gathering on illegal adoption and trafficking activities in the area.

The police operation, conducted around 8am on Toluwalase Street in Abaren Village, led to the arrest of six individuals believed to be involved in the illicit activities. Among those apprehended are 58-year-old Florence Glory Ogbona, 63-year-old Magdalene Julius, 40-year-old Chidike Egwuonwu, 35-year-old Onyechu Chidike, 39-year-old Stephen Ogbona, and a nurse named Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

According to the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the two pregnant women rescued during the operation were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant. The four children, consisting of two boys and two girls, were also found at the facility.

The operation did not end there; further investigations led police to a nearby hospital where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had recently given birth to a baby boy on August 20. Effiong was discovered receiving medical treatment, but the whereabouts of her newborn remain unknown, prompting authorities to detain the attending nurse to assist in locating the infant.

The case has been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where investigators will delve deeper into the syndicate's operations, aiming to uncover the full extent of their activities and locate the missing child.

In a statement, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the officers involved in the operation, emphasizing the police force's dedication to combating human trafficking and child exploitation. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing reliable information to aid law enforcement efforts.

This operation follows a similar incident reported by Punch earlier this year, where the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps uncovered another baby factory in Lagos State, rescuing 18 pregnant women and 10 children. The ongoing fight against human trafficking highlights the urgent need for community awareness and collaboration with law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
