As political activities ramp up in Yobe State in preparation for the 2027 general elections, the state’s police command has issued a stern warning to politicians and youth groups against any actions that could disturb the peace. This caution was articulated by the Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, during a press briefing following a State Security Council meeting held in Damaturu, chaired by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana.

Commissioner Jibrin emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order as political tensions rise, noting that the police have made significant strides in reducing various types of crime in the state. "From our statistics this year, we are recording the lowest figures on so many angles, so we are making progress," he stated, highlighting the police's commitment to ensuring a secure environment.

The Commissioner expressed his concerns regarding the recent uptick in political activities, urging all political actors to conduct their campaigns within the confines of the law and without resorting to violence. He revealed that there have already been instances of disturbances linked to political movements, with several arrests made in connection to these incidents. One notable case involved supporters of a former Secretary to the State Government and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, who faced challenges during an open campaign in Machina. Jibrin confirmed that investigations are ongoing regarding this matter.

In his remarks, Jibrin made it clear that no one would be permitted to disrupt the political activities of others, regardless of their political affiliations. He urged politicians to engage in constructive discourse focused on issues rather than personal attacks, stating, "You cannot win election by throwing stones. Deal with your political issues on issues. Discuss your political intentions on issues, not personality, not destruction."

Furthermore, the Commissioner cautioned the youth against being manipulated by politicians to engage in criminal activities. He warned that any individuals found culpable would face legal consequences. "Do not allow anybody to stay at the background and push you. Identify the person, know him very well and have evidence to prove that he was the one who sent you to do it," he advised.

On the topic of insurgency, Jibrin reassured residents that security agencies are continuously adapting new strategies and technologies to prevent attacks and address emerging threats. He affirmed the commitment of security forces to safeguard lives and property, assuring the public that they are "on top of the situation."
