The Lagos State Government has officially launched the construction of six roads in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government and Ifelodun Local Council Development Area. This initiative, aimed at enhancing accessibility to markets and public facilities, is expected to significantly boost economic activities in these densely populated communities.

The project, which encompasses a total of 1,835 metres of road construction, was inaugurated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Nurudeen Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development. The roads included in this development are Asubiojo Street (320m) and Owoseni Street (115m) in Ifelodun LCDA, along with Cemetery Market Road (250m), Isikalu Street (560m), Alayabiagba Street (320m), and Odofin Street (270m) in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government.

The reconstruction efforts will feature interlocking pavement and covered drainage systems, with the addition of solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and visibility. The government has set a timeline of 12 months for the completion of these projects.

Agbaje highlighted that the construction of these roads is part of the administration's strategy to focus on grassroots infrastructure development, moving beyond major urban corridors. He emphasized that these projects are intended to bring “meaningful development closer to residents at the grassroots,” especially in areas where local infrastructure has a direct impact on movement and commercial activities.

According to Agbaje, the road improvements are designed to facilitate better movement within the communities, improve access to markets and public services, and ultimately reduce transportation costs and travel time. The initiative is also expected to create job opportunities and stimulate local economic growth.

The inclusion of covered drainage systems is a significant aspect of the project, aimed at ensuring the longevity and effectiveness of the road infrastructure. Government officials noted that enhancing these routes will ease the movement of people and goods, alleviating the transport challenges posed by poor local road conditions.

Moreover, the planned solar streetlights are set to improve safety in the area, providing better visibility during the night. Agbaje reiterated that this intervention aligns with the government’s broader grassroots development strategy under the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure and inclusive development across Lagos State.

This road construction initiative represents a commitment to ensuring that residents in local communities benefit from improved public infrastructure, reinforcing the importance of grassroots development in the overall progress of Lagos.
