A late-night raid by armed terrorists in the Igbesi community of Kwara State has led to the abduction of the traditional ruler, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

Kwara State's Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, confirmed the abduction on Sunday, emphasizing that efforts are underway to locate and rescue the monarch. The police have not disclosed the specific whereabouts of Oba Iwedunmoye or the number of individuals taken during the attack, which has left the community in a state of fear and uncertainty.

According to local sources, the terrorists descended upon the sleepy community in the Isin Local Government Area, which is situated in the Kwara South senatorial district. The police have been actively working to dispel rumors suggesting that multiple residents were abducted alongside the traditional ruler. Commissioner Adekimi stated, "The narrative of attacks within the past 24 hours is far from the truth; nothing of such," while assuring the public that security operatives are on high alert and conducting a thorough search for the kidnapped monarch.

Igbesi is notable not only for its cultural significance but also as the birthplace of the late former Governor of Kwara State, Chief Cornelius Adebayo. The recent kidnapping incident has raised concerns about the rising trend of attacks targeting traditional leaders in Nigeria, particularly in the North Central region.

This incident follows a troubling pattern of violence against monarchs, highlighted by a recent case in Ondo State where another traditional ruler was kidnapped, and his wife was shot during the assault. Such acts of violence have prompted increased security measures and manhunts by police forces in affected areas.

As the situation unfolds, the community of Igbesi remains hopeful for the safe return of their revered leader. The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as they intensify their efforts to combat the menace of terrorism and kidnapping in the region.
