Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has raised urgent concerns regarding the escalating security situation in Kebbe Local Government Area and the Kaya community during a meeting with Defence Minister Christopher Musa. The meeting, which took place on August 20, 2026, was prompted by recent attacks attributed to suspected Lakurawa militants that have led to the displacement of residents and significant disruption to daily life in these areas.

Accompanying Tambuwal was Abdussamad Dasuki, the Deputy Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and representative for the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency. Together, they expressed their deep concerns about the safety of their constituents and the need for immediate action to enhance security measures in the affected regions.

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Tambuwal emphasized the importance of conveying the worries of the local populace to the Defence Minister. He stated, "We conveyed the concerns of our people" to Minister Musa, highlighting the urgent need for increased security presence and operational resources to combat the ongoing threats.

Minister Musa responded positively, assuring the delegation of the federal government's commitment to addressing the security challenges in Sokoto State. He acknowledged the severity of the situation and indicated that measures would be taken to bolster security efforts in the troubled areas.

The recent attacks have not only caused fear among residents but have also disrupted economic activities and social cohesion within the communities. Local leaders are calling for a swift response to restore peace and security, as many families have been forced to flee their homes due to the violence.

The meeting between Tambuwal and Musa underscores the growing concern among political leaders regarding the safety of citizens in northern Nigeria, where attacks by armed groups have become increasingly frequent. Stakeholders are now looking to the federal government for effective solutions to curb the rising tide of insecurity that threatens the stability of the region.
