The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has expressed renewed determination to confront the power of incumbency in the upcoming 2027 general elections, citing the recent governorship election in Osun State as a pivotal moment. Dr. David Ombugadu, the party's governorship candidate, emphasized that the outcome in Osun demonstrated that political power ultimately resides with the electorate, rather than being secured solely through incumbency or political alliances.

During a press briefing on Thursday at the PDP secretariat in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, Ombugadu stated, "The Osun State election is proof that it is not going to be business as usual. The 2027 election is not about the power of the sitting governor, but about the power of the people." He urged voters to actively participate in the electoral process, ensuring they cast their ballots and safeguard their votes to prevent a repeat of the challenges faced during the 2023 elections.

Despite a few defections to other political parties, Ombugadu assured that the PDP's structure in Nasarawa remains robust. He highlighted that the party had secured nine seats in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly during the last election, although it currently holds seven following the departure of two lawmakers. Looking ahead, he expressed the party's ambition to win all 24 state Assembly seats and the governorship position in 2027.

Echoing Ombugadu's sentiments, Dr. Daniel Gimba, the state chairman of the PDP, noted that the recent Osun election illustrated that financial power could not dictate voters' decisions indefinitely. Gimba remarked on the increasing political consciousness among Nigerians, asserting, "It has come to a time now that the masses are fully aware that money cannot change their will." He called on voters to ensure their choices are reflected in the final results by protecting their ballots.

Gimba also countered claims of the PDP losing members, stating that the party has been welcoming new members from other political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He assured party supporters that the PDP is well-prepared and strategically positioned for the 2027 elections, emphasizing the need for a peaceful environment where citizens can freely exercise their voting rights.

To further strengthen its position, the PDP plans to establish a reconciliation committee aimed at addressing grievances stemming from recent primaries, ensuring unity and readiness as the party gears up for the forthcoming elections.
