A 35-year-old woman, Jessica Bowie, has been arrested by the FBI for allegedly plotting to bomb the New York State Capitol. Charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, Bowie is accused of expressing a desire to destroy the state government’s nerve center located in Albany, New York.

Court documents reveal that Bowie had converted to Islam and became an outspoken supporter of the Islamic State group, sharing anti-American sentiments online, including praise for the September 11 attacks. Her communications with an FBI informant included detailed plans to carry out the attack, showcasing her intent to cause significant destruction and loss of life.

According to the complaint, Bowie explicitly stated her goal was to “destroy as much of the building as possible and kill the senators while they are meeting.” She even mentioned wanting to observe security measures at the Capitol by having picnics nearby, indicating a premeditated approach to her plans.

Bowie’s communication with the informant also included discussions about acquiring materials for explosive devices. She reportedly sought advice on how to manufacture explosives and indicated that she had collected anarchist literature that could provide useful tips for her plot. The FBI’s investigation revealed that she had obtained a DoorDash bag, which she intended to use as a disguise to gain access to the Capitol under the pretense of delivering food.

The investigation culminated in her arrest on August 19, just before she could execute her plans. During her apprehension, she allegedly told agents, “There’s no helping me, you guys know enough.” This statement underscores the gravity of her intentions and her apparent resignation to the consequences of her actions.

Bowie is expected to appear in court soon as the legal proceedings against her commence. Her attorney has yet to comment on the charges. The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic terrorism and the recruitment efforts of extremist groups within the United States, particularly in the context of individuals seeking to carry out violent acts against government institutions.
