NSCDC apprehends security guard for alleged burglary in Akure, Ondo State
A 20-year-old security guard has been arrested in Ondo State for his involvement in a burglary case.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has arrested a 20-year-old security guard linked to a burglary incident that occurred in Akure, the state capital. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended on August 13, three months after the alleged crime took place on May 16.
According to SC Daniel Aidamenbor, the Public Relations Officer for the NSCDC Ondo State Command, the suspect fled the scene after reportedly breaking into an apartment located in the Alagbaka area of Akure. The incident came to light when the apartment’s owner returned home to find the gate and main entrance doors wide open, with the suspect nowhere in sight.
A thorough investigation was initiated following a complaint from the victim. The NSCDC's intelligence unit reviewed Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage, which captured the suspect entering the residence and taking various items belonging to the complainant. The items stolen included a Samsung A30 mobile phone, a Tecno Spark 40 mobile phone, a laptop, a Huawei tablet, a cheque book, clothing, and other personal belongings.
The investigation led operatives to Lagos State, where the suspect was eventually located and arrested. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to using a spare key to access the apartment and admitted to selling the stolen items to acquire money. He reportedly sold the phones and tablet at Olukayode Complex in Akure, while the laptop was sold at Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos.
In light of this incident, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye of the NSCDC has urged the public to conduct thorough background checks before hiring domestic security personnel. He emphasized the importance of proper profiling of domestic staff to prevent potential criminal activities by individuals with questionable backgrounds.
Furthermore, the commandant cautioned against the purchase of stolen goods, warning that buyers could face legal consequences for their actions. The NSCDC remains committed to its mandate of safeguarding lives and property, ensuring the safety and security of residents throughout Ondo State.
