In a significant operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered an array of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. This operation was executed under Sector 8 of Operation ENDURING PEACE, as part of the broader initiative known as Operation HARD KNOCK, following credible intelligence regarding a planned attack on Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom.

The intelligence, received on August 19, 2026, indicated a looming threat from suspected bandit militias targeting the community. Preliminary investigations suggested that the planned assault might be connected to the alleged rustling of cattle by some youths in the area. In response to this intelligence, the Army swiftly deployed troops to conduct a fighting patrol aimed at both recovering the missing cattle and apprehending those implicated in the rustling.

The Army reported that drones and other surveillance technologies were utilized to search surrounding settlements and bush areas for the missing cattle; however, these efforts yielded no results. During the operation, troops identified Pantong Stanley and other youths from the community as potential suspects. A snap raid was conducted on Stanley's residence, but he was not present at the time.

Despite the absence of the primary suspect, the operation proved fruitful as troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated AK-47, a locally made revolver rifle, two Dane guns, and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. The Army, in collaboration with the police and other security agencies, is continuing offensive operations and targeted searches in areas associated with other identified suspects.

In a statement shared on X, the Army urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies. They reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining a secure environment conducive to peaceful coexistence across Plateau State and the North Central region.

The Nigerian Army emphasized its determination to combat the proliferation of illegal arms and protect vulnerable communities, ensuring that criminal elements do not disrupt peace and security in the region.
