Police foil attempted abduction of 6-year-old girl, arrest teenage suspect in Adamawa


The Adamawa State Police Command has foiled an attempt to abduct a 6-year-old girl and arrested a teenage suspect in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on 18th August, 2026.

According to the PPRO, police operatives received credible information indicating that the 18-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Sa'adu, had attempted to forcefully abduct Nora Luka.

Acting on the information, the suspect was promptly intercepted by the police patrol team and taken into custody.

The victim was rescued unhurt and handed over to her parents.

"The Adamawa State Police Command has foiled an attempted abduction of a 6-year-old girl following the prompt intervention of Police operatives attached to Mayo Belwa Divisional Headquarters," the statement read.

"On 18th August, 2026, Police operatives at Mayo Belwa received credible information that one Abdullahi Sa'adu, 18 years old, of Anguwan Eti Salat, Mayo Belwa, had attempted to forcefully abduct Nora Luka, 6 years old, of Anguwan Tsakuwa, Mayo Belwa.

"The suspect was promptly intercepted by the Police patrol team and taken into custody, while the victim was rescued unhurt and handed over to her parents for safety.

"The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, has commended the police patrol team and members of the community for their swift response and professionalism.

"He reassures members of the public that the Command remains committed to the protection of children and other vulnerable members of society.

"Investigation into the incident is ongoing, after which the suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion.

"The Command urges parents, guardians, and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity involving children to the nearest Police Station or through the Command's emergency lines.
