Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a strong warning against politicians who engage in terrorist activities, calling for decisive action against such individuals as the 2027 elections approach. In a recent post on his verified X account, Dickson emphasized the need for accountability and international cooperation to expose and penalize these so-called terrorist-politicians.

Dickson's remarks came after a meeting with representatives from the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), two prominent organizations based in the United States that advocate for democratic governance worldwide. He expressed concern over the alarming trend of political figures resorting to violence and intimidation to secure power.

The former governor of Bayelsa State highlighted the troubling behavior of certain politicians who, rather than seeking genuine political support, engage in criminal activities such as arms procurement, training militias, and colluding with security forces to perpetrate violence. "Some politicians have made this a recurring pattern during election seasons," he lamented.

Dickson's call to action is particularly urgent given the upcoming elections, where he believes that the integrity of Nigeria's democracy is at stake. He insisted that those who masquerade as political leaders while engaging in terrorist acts should be treated as terrorists, asserting that there should be no leniency for such individuals.

He stated, "In the NDC, we are determined to ensure that Nigerians are able to vote freely and that their votes count. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security agencies, and all relevant institutions must ensure that citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear, intimidation, or violence."

The senator's comments underscore a growing concern among Nigerian citizens and political leaders about the threats posed by violent political actors. Dickson's call for international collaboration to "name, shame, and sanction" these politicians reflects a broader demand for accountability and a commitment to safeguarding democratic processes in Nigeria.

As the political landscape heats up in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, the NDC leader's stance may resonate with many who are eager to see a fair and peaceful electoral process, free from the shadow of violence and intimidation that has plagued previous elections.
