Bauchi State witnessed a significant turnout of women voters during the 2026 Local Council elections, with Governor Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed participating actively at the Yelwan Duguri polling unit. The governor cast his vote for the Alkaleri Local Government Council candidate at the Kofar Fada, Baby Unit, emphasizing the importance of grassroots governance.

Women voters expressed their satisfaction with the electoral process, highlighting the mobilization efforts by candidates and political parties. Shahuda Adamu, a 28-year-old housewife, noted that the election would enhance governance at the local level, while Tafisu Jika, another voter, praised the governor's contributions to the community, stating, "He is our son, he has done us proud."

The governor's participation in the election was marked by a peaceful atmosphere, which he attributed to effective security measures and the involvement of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC). Speaking to journalists after voting, he expressed optimism about the performance of the Allied People's Movement (APM) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He remarked, "It would appear that we will leave office in peace. By the grace of God, I hope to support the emergence of somebody from my party who will take over from us and continue the good work we are doing."

Governor Mohammed highlighted the importance of local governance, stating that the local government is where most citizens live and that it is crucial for elected officials to govern with integrity and a sense of responsibility. He emphasized that his administration has prioritized the conduct of elections, ensuring they occur as scheduled, and has fostered a culture of democratic governance at the local level.

Reflecting on his administration's achievements, the governor noted an increase in political engagement among educated individuals, with many candidates now possessing advanced degrees. He attributed this shift to efforts made to ensure local government autonomy and resource allocation, which have encouraged participation in local politics.

The governor also addressed the recent boycott of the elections by some political parties, suggesting that their withdrawal stemmed from a lack of connection with the electorate. He urged all parties to engage with the populace and test their popularity through participation in elections.

In conclusion, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed gratitude to the people of Bauchi State for their support during his tenure, stating, "I am very proud of the support we are receiving from the people and of the appreciation they have shown us." He remains hopeful for the success of the APM in the forthcoming elections, viewing the local council elections as a critical test for the party's acceptance among the electorate.
