Former Anambra State governor and presidential hopeful for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has extended his congratulations to Ademola Adeleke, the re-elected governor of Osun State. Adeleke, who ran for office under the Accord Party, secured a second term by defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in a closely contested election held on Saturday.

In a statement released on Sunday via his verified X account, Obi expressed his satisfaction with the election outcome, emphasizing that it showcased the importance of the electorate in the democratic process. He remarked that the results demonstrated the citizens' commitment to exercising their right to choose their leaders.

Obi stated, "I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory." He highlighted the significance of youth participation in the electoral process, commending them for their vigilance in ensuring that their votes were protected.

The NDC presidential hopeful noted that the Osun election serves as a vital lesson ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections. He urged Nigerians to engage actively in the democratic process, asserting that, "The lesson from Osun is clear: democracy is strongest when citizens are alert, conscious of their civic responsibility, and determined to ensure that their votes count."

Obi further called on political leaders to prioritize the interests of Nigerians, advocating for a peaceful political environment rooted in the rule of law. He stressed that elections should be based on ideas, competence, character, and service rather than violence.

In a show of solidarity, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, also congratulated Adeleke on his victory. She shared her message on Facebook, writing, "Congratulations H.E. Adeleke. Congratulations Osun State. Respect from Kogi Central."

According to the final results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke garnered 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes, marking a significant victory for the Accord Party and reaffirming Adeleke's leadership in Osun State.
