Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. This announcement came during a press conference held on Sunday following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke, who recently won re-election under the Accord Party banner, described Tinubu as a 'son of Osun State' and expressed gratitude for the president's commitment to ensuring a free and fair electoral process in the state. "At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr. President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election," Adeleke stated.

The governor's endorsement is significant, considering his previous affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before his recent defection to the Accord Party. His victory in the governorship election, announced by State Returning Officer Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, saw him secure 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes. Adeleke's win was marked by his success in 19 out of 30 local government areas in Osun, while Oyebamiji claimed victory in the remaining 11 areas. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

In his remarks, Adeleke thanked Tinubu for reaching out to congratulate him on his electoral success. He also expressed hope that his rival, Oyebamiji, would extend similar courtesies, stating, "This is no victor, no vanquished. I want them to come over. I am expecting Oyebamiji to even, as a civilised person, to call me and congratulate me."

Adeleke's reaffirmation of support for Tinubu comes at a time when political alliances are crucial in the lead-up to the next presidential election. His endorsement may influence the dynamics within the state and among party members as the 2027 elections approach.
