The political landscape in Osun State has shifted as Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), faced a significant defeat in his home turf of Ilesa East local government area. The candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, emerged victorious, securing 16,208 votes against Aregbesola's party, which managed to garner only 504 votes.

The results, which were announced recently, indicate a robust showing for the APC, while Aregbesola's ADC struggled to make an impact in a region that has been pivotal for his political career. The Accord Party's candidate, Ademola Adeleke, also performed relatively well, finishing with 12,280 votes.

In a further blow to Aregbesola, he lost his own polling unit located at Isare/Ifofin, ward 8. There, he could only muster 13 votes, while Oyebamiji's APC received 256 votes and the Accord Party secured 43 votes. This loss in his polling unit highlights the challenges Aregbesola faces as he attempts to maintain his political relevance in the region.

The defeat is particularly striking given Aregbesola's previous tenure as governor of Osun State, where he had significant influence and support. The results from Ilesa East could signal a shifting allegiance among voters, as the APC continues to consolidate its power in the state.

As the political scene evolves in Osun, the implications of this election are likely to resonate beyond Ilesa East, potentially affecting future elections and party dynamics in the region.
