Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially ordered the cessation of legal proceedings against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning the freezing of the state government's bank account. This decision follows his recent victory in the governorship election held on August 15 and a subsequent intervention from President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview on Channels Television's Sunday Politics, Adeleke confirmed that he had instructed the state Attorney General to withdraw the case against the EFCC. "I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr. President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?" he stated, indicating a desire to move forward after the election.

The legal battle began when the EFCC froze the state account shortly before the election, a move that Adeleke described as politically motivated. He argued that the restrictions imposed by the agency could severely hinder the operations of the state government, raising concerns about the timing of the EFCC's actions.

President Tinubu's intervention played a crucial role in resolving the dispute. Following discussions with Adeleke, the president directed the EFCC to lift the restrictions on the account and to cease any related legal actions. This presidential directive has effectively brought an end to the governor's court battle with the anti-graft agency.

In addition to the account freeze, Adeleke addressed allegations regarding the EFCC's questioning of some of his supporters and government officials. He revealed that he had mobilized his legal team to assist those affected, stating, "Well, we have been talking. I have been calling all my lawyers to go there. I’m sure the APC in Osun, according to them, they are telling us they are using federal might."

With the withdrawal of the lawsuit, Adeleke's administration can now focus on governance without the cloud of legal disputes hanging over it. This decision marks a significant shift in the relationship between the Osun State government and the EFCC, particularly in the wake of the recent electoral victory.
