Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed serious concerns regarding the recent governorship election, citing significant issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BIVAS) and reports of voter intimidation. During a live address on Osun Radio, Adeleke revealed that the BIVAS machines were malfunctioning at several polling units, resulting in slow voter accreditation and considerable delays for those attempting to cast their ballots.

Adeleke's allegations extend beyond technical failures, as he claimed that armed thugs were actively disrupting the voting process in Olorunda and Irewole Local Government Areas. He specifically named an individual, known as Enuku, as a key figure in the intimidation of voters. The governor's remarks suggest a troubling environment for voters, with reports of individuals being chased away from polling stations, particularly in Ikire.

"Right now, there are complaints that BIVAS are not working well. I am not happy at all. The police are aiding the APC. Enuku, the thug, is disturbing people," Adeleke stated, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with the situation. He further questioned the role of security personnel, suggesting that they were not acting impartially and were instead siding with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite the challenges, Adeleke urged his supporters to remain calm and committed to the electoral process. He encouraged them to complete their voting and to protect their ballots. "In Olorunda, they are behaving anyhow. My advice is that my people should vote and defend their votes. Don't be afraid. It is just for one day," he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Osun State Police Command had not provided immediate responses to the governor's allegations at the time of this report. The situation raises concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in Osun State, with observers and citizens alike calling for a thorough investigation into the claims made by Governor Adeleke.

As the election continues, the presence of officers from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at polling units is a notable development, aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
