In a significant move to bolster entrepreneurship among Nigerian youth, the federal government has unveiled the NiYA × Cascador Founders Programme, which offers funding of up to N5 million for selected young entrepreneurs. The initiative was announced by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, on August 14, 2026, and aims to support early-stage founders in overcoming common barriers to business success.
The programme, a collaboration between the Nigerian Youth Academy and private firm Cascador, will provide a four-week intensive training that covers essential business fundamentals, pitch preparation, and personalized mentorship. Applications for this initiative will open on August 19, 2026, through the Nigerian Youth Academy's official website.
Olawande emphasized the necessity of this initiative, stating that many young entrepreneurs struggle to secure funding due to a lack of financial records and professional networks. He highlighted the programme's goal to bridge the gap between training and access to capital, ensuring that participants are not only educated but also ready to attract investment.
“We do not want to stop at training. We want to build a stronger bridge from learning to enterprise, from ideas to investment readiness, and from potential to sustainable businesses,” Olawande remarked, underscoring the programme's comprehensive approach.
Only the top-performing participants of the programme will be eligible for the non-dilutive funding, meaning they will not have to give up any equity in their businesses to receive the financial support. Additionally, beneficiaries will gain access to an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution, designed to assist them in managing and scaling their operations effectively.
The minister noted that the collaboration with Cascador stemmed from previous engagements aimed at creating tangible opportunities for Nigerian youth. He encouraged prospective applicants to keep an eye on the Nigerian Youth Academy's website for detailed eligibility criteria and application guidelines once the application period begins.
This initiative marks a proactive step by the federal government to empower young entrepreneurs in Nigeria, aiming to transform innovative ideas into viable businesses that can contribute to the nation's economy.
