Masud Aliyu Umar, the Executive Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area in Bauchi State, tragically lost his life in a road accident on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The accident occurred in Konkiyal village, located in Darazo Local Government Area, as Umar was returning home after attending a stakeholders' meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi.

Umar, who was elected as chairman on August 17, 2026, had only been in office for a few months. Prior to his election, he served as the Director-General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), where he was known for his significant contributions to disaster response and humanitarian efforts throughout the state.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow over Umar's untimely death. In a condolence message released through his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor described the loss as devastating for the state and extended his sympathies to Umar's family, the residents of Zaki LGA, and the Katagum Emirate Council.

Governor Mohammed highlighted Umar's dedication to public service, stating, "Masud Aliyu Umar was a dedicated public servant, a committed grassroots politician, and a compassionate leader whose contributions to public service and community development would remain indelible in the history of Bauchi State." He noted that despite his brief tenure, Umar had demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering youth and women, improving livelihoods, and fostering inclusive grassroots development in Zaki LGA.

The governor urged Umar's family and associates to find strength in their faith during this difficult time and prayed for the late chairman to be granted Aljannatul Firdaus.

Funeral arrangements have been made, with the prayers scheduled to take place on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Palace of the District Head, Mur Mur, in Zaki Local Government Area. The community is expected to come together to honor the memory of a leader who made significant strides in his short time in office.
