A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has resulted in the death of an unidentified footballer. The incident occurred on Monday in the Magboro area of Ogun State, specifically within the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

The accident involved a Mercedes-Benz C300 and a bus, with initial reports indicating that a hit-and-run driver was responsible. Officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, along with police officers, confirmed the fatality at the scene. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the crash, stating that the footballer and his teammates were en route to a match when the accident occurred.

According to an eyewitness, the group was traveling in two vehicles when a trailer suddenly crossed from the opposite side and collided with the Mercedes-Benz. This impact caused the car to veer into a bus, resulting in the tragic outcome. "We were going for a match. We just saw a trailer cross from the other side and hit this Benz, then it hit the bus. Only one person died in the car while the rest of us survived. Everyone in the bus is fine, too. The trailer driver fled with his vehicle afterwards," the eyewitness stated.

The Mercedes-Benz, which bore the registration number SMK-878KX, sustained significant damage, and efforts to clear the wreckage from the expressway were underway. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly regarding hit-and-run cases.

As investigations continue, the football community mourns the loss of a promising talent, while authorities work to locate the driver of the trailer responsible for this devastating accident.
