Lagos Consumers Recoup Over ₦26 Million from Ikeja Electric Amid Billing Disputes
LASCOPA resolves 528 complaints against Ikeja Electric, securing refunds for consumers.

Hundreds of electricity consumers in Lagos State are celebrating a significant victory as the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has successfully recovered over ₦26 million in refunds and credit adjustments from Ikeja Electric Distribution Company. This financial relief comes in response to numerous complaints regarding billing disputes and inadequate service delivery.
Between January and September 2026, LASCOPA addressed a total of 556 complaints against Ikeja Electric, resolving 528 of them, which translates to an impressive resolution rate of approximately 95%. The agency's efforts resulted in a total recovery of ₦26,243,758.75, highlighting the importance of consumer advocacy in the electricity sector.
LASCOPA's General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, emphasized the agency's commitment to ensuring fairness and accountability in the electricity distribution sector. He stated that the recovered funds reflect the agency's dedication to protecting consumers from unfair practices and urged electricity providers to enhance their service delivery.
The agency's Head of the Complaints and Mediation Department, Yusuf Musiliu, noted that complaints were received through both online and offline channels. Regular engagement sessions between consumers and Ikeja Electric officials have been instrumental in resolving longstanding disputes. These sessions provide a platform for consumers to present their grievances, clarify disputed charges, and negotiate acceptable resolutions.
To further strengthen consumer protection, LASCOPA has introduced monthly meetings with Ikeja Electric, held on the last Thursday of each month. These gatherings allow residents with unresolved complaints to engage directly with company representatives, fostering dialogue and practical solutions. Musiliu encouraged consumers facing issues such as estimated billing and overcharging to report their concerns promptly, providing supporting evidence to facilitate quicker investigations.
LASCOPA has reiterated that its interventions are guided by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, which aims to uphold consumer rights and ensure acceptable service standards in the electricity sector. Solebo encouraged affected residents to reach out to LASCOPA through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, or via email at lasgcopa@gmail.com for assistance with their complaints.
As the agency continues its efforts to protect consumers, it remains committed to ensuring that residents do not suffer financial losses due to unjustified electricity charges. The proactive measures taken by LASCOPA serve as a reminder of the importance of consumer rights and the need for accountability in the electricity distribution industry.
