Ghanaian teenager fatally shot near school in Bronx, New York
Javits Frimpong, 15, was shot in the abdomen near his school in the Bronx.

A tragic incident unfolded in the Bronx, New York, where 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, originally from Ghana, was shot dead while walking near his school. The shooting occurred shortly before 9:30 am on Thursday, near the intersection of East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont area, as reported by CBS News.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Frimpong sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The police are currently on the lookout for three teenage suspects, aged between 16 and 18, who were last seen wearing dark clothing and blue surgical masks. As of now, investigators have not revealed the motive behind the shooting.
Frimpong's father, Thomas Frimpong, expressed his devastation over the loss of his son, who had moved from Ghana to live with him in the United States approximately one year ago. He learned of the incident from the principal of Dreamyard Preparatory, the school his son attended. Thomas revealed that his son had been a victim of bullying at school, having reported several incidents to the authorities.
He recounted that just days before the shooting, two boys had engaged in a physical fight with Javits, resulting in their suspension. The father mentioned that his son had confided in him about ongoing bullying from another student during lunch, stating, "Any time I am going to lunch, that guy keep on bullying me."
Despite reaching out to the school and the New York City Department of Education regarding these allegations, CBS News reported that neither institution had responded at the time of their inquiry.
Describing his son as a quiet individual who rarely spoke, Thomas Frimpong appealed for justice, urging those responsible for his son's death to turn themselves in. "They should not go unpunished for taking an innocent childβs life," he said, highlighting the profound impact of the loss on his family.
The NYPD has called on anyone with information related to the shooting to contact their Crime Stoppers hotline, as the investigation continues into this heartbreaking event that has shaken the local community.
