Federal Government welcomes 180 Nigerians returning from Libya
The National Emergency Management Agency received 180 Nigerian returnees from Libya, providing immediate assistance.

The Federal Government has successfully facilitated the return of 180 Nigerian citizens from Libya, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) overseeing the operation. The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Tuesday at approximately 4:20 PM.
This repatriation is part of the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme, a collaborative effort between the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian government. The returnees were transported on an Air Buraq Airlines flight, identified by the registration number 5A-BAE.
Among the returnees, there were 143 adults, which included 75 males and 68 females. Additionally, the group comprised 26 children—12 boys and 14 girls—and 11 infants, consisting of three boys and eight girls. Upon their arrival, the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation to verify the identities of the returnees, ensuring accurate records for future reintegration efforts.
NEMA reported that the returnees received immediate humanitarian assistance, which included food, clean drinking water, and medical screenings. For those needing medical attention, ambulance services were made available, alongside logistical support for luggage handling and reception coordination. The agency emphasized that counselling services were also provided to aid in the emotional well-being of the returnees.
The reception of the returnees involved various government agencies and partners, working in unison to guarantee a safe and dignified arrival. NEMA highlighted that this intervention aims to offer essential support to the returnees as they reintegrate into their communities.
This operation underscores the Nigerian government's commitment to ensuring the welfare of its citizens abroad, particularly those who have faced challenges in foreign lands. As the returnees begin their reintegration journey, NEMA remains dedicated to facilitating their transition back into society, providing the necessary resources and support to help them rebuild their lives in Nigeria.
