Abraham Edidion Edem, a recent graduate from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has become a beacon of hope for many after sharing his challenging educational journey marked by significant financial hardships. His story, which gained traction on LinkedIn, reveals how he faced numerous obstacles yet emerged victorious, graduating with two scholarships and a commendable record of leadership roles.

During his secondary school years, Abraham frequently encountered difficulties due to his family's inability to pay school fees. This financial strain led to him being turned away from school on multiple occasions. The situation escalated to the point where he was unable to attend school for nearly two years after completing his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC). Following this prolonged break, he finally enrolled at UNILORIN in December 2022, though he was plagued by doubts about his ability to succeed without financial backing.

On his way to university, Abraham experienced a pivotal moment of introspection. Travelling alone through Ogbomoso, Oyo State, he grappled with fears about his future, questioning how he would manage his finances while studying. Despite these overwhelming concerns, he chose to continue his journey, demonstrating remarkable determination.

Once at UNILORIN, Abraham distinguished himself not only academically but also through his active participation in student leadership. He served as Class Governor for three consecutive years and ascended to the role of Faculty President in his final year. Additionally, he held secretarial positions in both his departmental association and a Christian fellowship group, and served as a Senator on the Faculty Students Representative Council.

Abraham's academic performance was equally impressive; he consistently ranked among the top three in his class throughout his studies. His dedication earned him two scholarships and recognition as one of the 50 Most Reputable Students in his department on four occasions. He also pursued professional qualifications, obtaining an Associate Accounting Technician certification while working towards becoming an Associate Chartered Accountant.

Beyond academics, Abraham was actively involved in various organizations. He worked as a manager at Livingstone Homes and The Orchards Online Tutoring, and contributed as a senior analyst in the Management Consulting Division of The Investment Society. His commitment to community service was evident through his co-founding of The Smile Outreach and volunteering with Plogging Nigeria.

Reflecting on his journey, Abraham expressed gratitude for the support he received from family, friends, and colleagues. He emphasized the importance of perseverance, stating that through moments of pressure, he learned to breathe and keep moving forward. As he celebrated his graduation, he extended congratulations to his fellow graduates at UNILORIN, inspiring others with his story of resilience and success.
