Dr Pius Osunyikanmi, a former Commissioner for Education in Ondo State and ex-Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, has passed away at the age of 55. His death occurred on Saturday after a prolonged illness, as reported by Starnews, citing family sources.

Osunyikanmi was a significant figure in Nigerian politics, particularly known for his close association with former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, serving as both a political adviser and ally. His contributions to public service and education were notable throughout his career, which spanned over a decade in various leadership roles.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Rotimi Akinwamide, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Constituency, expressed deep sorrow at Osunyikanmi's passing. He described him as "a distinguished son of Ile-Oluji, an accomplished academic, an experienced public servant, and a notable figure in Nigeria’s political and administrative landscape."

Akinwamide highlighted Osunyikanmi’s dedication to education and governance, stating that his legacy would endure through his impactful contributions to national development. He served as the Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps from August 15, 2013, until August 22, 2023, having been appointed initially by former President Goodluck Jonathan and reappointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The condolence message further noted that Osunyikanmi's work in education and public administration significantly shaped the lives of many in Ondo State and beyond. Akinwamide extended his condolences to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort for those mourning his loss.

"May the Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give all those he has left behind the courage to endure this difficult moment," Akinwamide added, reflecting the sentiments of many who recognized Osunyikanmi's contributions to society.

The news of Dr Osunyikanmi's death has left a void in the Ile-Oluji community and the broader Ondo State political landscape, where he was respected for his commitment to service and education.
