IDF Chief confirms thwarted attack after two Palestinian gunmen killed in West Bank
Israeli forces prevent larger assault following deadly shooting in southern West Bank.

The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, announced that Israeli troops successfully thwarted a potentially larger attack after killing two Palestinian gunmen in the southern West Bank. This incident occurred during a security assessment following a shooting that injured five Israelis, with two of them reported to be in critical condition.
Zamir described the shooting as a serious attack and praised the rapid response of the military personnel involved. He emphasized that their swift action was crucial in preventing further casualties among both civilians and security forces. "The troops’ swift action prevented an even more serious attack and further harm to civilians and security forces," Zamir stated during the assessment.
The IDF reported that a significant quantity of ammunition was found inside the vehicle used by the assailants, indicating that the firearms and ammunition could have been intended for a larger-scale operation. The two gunmen were armed with an M16 assault rifle and a pistol when they were confronted by the deputy commander of the Home Front Command’s Ari Battalion and a company commander, who subsequently shot them dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Zamir ordered military officials to prepare for the possible deployment of additional forces to the IDF’s Central Command area, should the security situation necessitate reinforcements. This directive reflects the heightened alertness of Israeli forces in response to the ongoing tensions in the region.
Following the incident, Israeli forces imposed closures on several Palestinian towns, including Hebron, as part of their security measures. The shooting took place at the Judea Junction along Route 35, a strategic area in the southern West Bank, near Hebron, underscoring the volatile nature of the security environment in the region.
As tensions continue to rise, the IDF remains vigilant, with military officials closely monitoring the situation and ready to take further action if required.
