Federal Government unveils proposed timetable for 2027 UTME and major exams
The Federal Government has released a proposed schedule for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and other major exams, aiming to streamline the examination process.

The Federal Government has announced a proposed timetable for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and other significant examinations in a bid to harmonize the scheduling of assessments across various educational bodies. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) shared the proposed schedule on its social media platforms on October 22, 2026, indicating that the UTME is slated to take place from March 15 to 25, 2027.
This new initiative aims to alleviate scheduling conflicts that often arise between Nigeria's primary examination bodies, thereby facilitating a smoother transition for students into tertiary education. The proposed timeline also includes the National Examinations Council's Senior School Certificate Examination, which is expected to run from April 1 to May 14, 2027. Following this, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination is scheduled for May 11 to June 18, 2027.
In addition, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) is set to conduct its examinations from June 1 to July 5, 2027, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) will hold its exams from June 10 to July 9, 2027. The government anticipates that by consolidating these examination dates, results from NECO, WAEC, NABTEB, and NBAIS will be available by August 2027, allowing successful candidates to commence the tertiary admission process by September of the same year.
The Federal Government has outlined four key objectives behind this coordinated timetable: to minimize clashes between examination schedules, enhance coordination among the various examination bodies, ensure timely processing and release of results, and enable eligible candidates to start their tertiary admission processes without unnecessary delays.
However, JAMB has emphasized that the dates provided are merely proposed and not yet finalized. Candidates and the public are encouraged to monitor official channels from each examination body for confirmed schedules before making any plans based on the proposed timetable. This initiative marks a significant step towards improving the examination landscape in Nigeria, aiming to provide a more organized and efficient system for students preparing for their future academic endeavors.
