The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone XI, AIG Bassey Samuel Ewah, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the safety of students in Osun and Oyo States. This assurance was made during a recent visit by the executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South-West Zone to the Zone XI Headquarters in Osogbo.

The visit, led by NANS South-West President Comrade Josiah Adeyemo, aimed to strengthen the relationship between the police and the student body. AIG Ewah expressed his appreciation for the visit and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and student leaders in fostering peace and security within the communities.

During the meeting, Adeyemo congratulated Ewah on his new role and highlighted NANS's commitment to working alongside the police to promote a safe environment for students and the general public. He pointed out that student sensitization is a key focus for the current leadership of NANS, underscoring the need for continuous engagement and public awareness to encourage responsible behavior and peaceful coexistence.

AIG Ewah welcomed the student leaders warmly, referring to them as his children. He shared insights from his own experiences as a student union leader at the University of Calabar, urging the current student leaders to take their responsibilities seriously. He stressed that effective leadership among students requires discipline, maturity, and a commitment to the welfare of their peers.

The AIG reiterated the police's dedication to protecting the fundamental rights of students and citizens alike, stating, "The protection of lives and property remains a paramount responsibility of the police." He encouraged the student leaders to actively educate their members on the importance of avoiding violence and unlawful activities, advocating for dialogue as a means to resolve grievances.

Ewah's remarks resonate with the ongoing efforts to enhance security in educational institutions and promote a collaborative approach to safety between students and law enforcement. The meeting marks a significant step towards building a stronger partnership aimed at ensuring a conducive learning environment for students in the region.
