The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 56-year-old man, Madarikan Emehinola, in connection with the tragic death of his wife, Igbagbo Erobe, who perished in a house fire in the Igbo-Edu area of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. The incident, which is being investigated as a suspected case of arson, was reported to the authorities on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

According to the police, the fire was reported at the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters, where it was confirmed that the blaze resulted in the death of the 40-year-old woman. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the body of the deceased has been transferred to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The police are currently processing the case for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a more thorough investigation. This move underscores the seriousness with which the police are treating the incident, as they seek to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fire.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, assured the public of a diligent and professional investigation into the matter. He emphasized the police command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, reiterating the importance of addressing allegations of serious crimes with the necessary investigative rigor.

The police have also called on community members to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could aid in crime prevention and ongoing investigations. This incident is reminiscent of a similar case reported in 2024, where a man allegedly set his wife on fire during a domestic dispute in the Ota area of Ogun State.

As the investigation unfolds, the Ogun State Police Command continues to encourage the public to provide credible information that could assist in addressing such grave incidents effectively.
