Former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja on October 12, 2026. This arrest is linked to serious allegations including criminal conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.

The arrest followed the issuance of a bench warrant, which was obtained by law enforcement authorities after Okorocha allegedly failed to respond to multiple invitations for questioning regarding the ongoing dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election results for Imo West. The situation escalated after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) raised concerns over a document that purportedly claimed Okorocha had won the APC primary election. However, INEC has officially recognized Governor Hope Uzodimma as the legitimate winner of the primary.

Reports indicate that Okorocha had previously dismissed claims of an arrest warrant issued against him, challenging those making such assertions to provide documented proof. The controversy surrounding the APC senatorial primary has intensified, with Okorocha's arrest marking a significant development in the ongoing political tensions within the party.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this arrest will impact the political landscape in Imo State and the broader implications for the APC as it prepares for upcoming elections. The party has been under scrutiny for its internal disputes, and this incident adds another layer of complexity to its electoral strategies.
