In a significant political move, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has dissolved his State Executive Council, a customary step as he prepares for his second term. This decision was announced following a valedictory session held at the Governor's Office in Ado-Ekiti, where the outgoing cabinet members gathered for their final meeting.

During the session, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to his cabinet, acknowledging their collective efforts in fulfilling the administration's commitments to the people of Ekiti State over the past four years. The atmosphere was marked by hymns, praise songs, and thanksgiving as members reflected on their time in office. Oyebanji emphasized the importance of their teamwork, which he attributed to the successes achieved during his first term.

Despite the sweeping changes, three senior officials will retain their positions in the new administration. Professor Habibat Adubiaro, the Secretary to the State Government; Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo, the Chief of Staff; and Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary, will continue in their roles as the governor transitions to his second term.

The valedictory session also provided a platform for the outgoing cabinet members to share their experiences and express their appreciation to Oyebanji for the opportunity to serve. The event concluded with the ceremonial cutting of a valedictory cake, symbolizing the end of the cabinet's tenure.

Governor Oyebanji is set to be sworn in for his second term on October 16, 2026, following his re-election in the governorship election held on June 20, 2026. His victory marks a historic moment as he becomes the first governor in Ekiti State's democratic history to secure consecutive electoral victories since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised the peaceful conduct of the recent elections and expressed confidence in Oyebanji's ability to consolidate ongoing reforms during his new term. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele remarked that the election results reflect the public's confidence in Oyebanji's leadership and commitment to the development of Ekiti State.
