LeBron James officially began his final season in the NBA on a disappointing note, as the Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Brooklyn Nets with a score of 114-108 in a pre-season game. The match, which took place on October 8, 2026, marked the start of what James has described as his last contract in the league, following an illustrious career spanning over two decades.

At 41 years old, James joined the 76ers in July, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a legacy that includes four NBA championships. In his debut for Philadelphia, he managed to score 10 points, along with four rebounds, five assists, and one steal during his 18 minutes of play in the first half.

Despite the loss, James expressed optimism regarding the potential of his new team. He acknowledged that the players are still in the process of developing chemistry and understanding how to work together effectively on the court. "We’re still trying to put each other in the position to be successful and complement each other the best way we can on the floor. But it’s going to take some time," he noted. He added that the game served as a valuable opportunity for the team to identify areas for improvement.

James shared the court with new teammates such as Joel Embiid, VJ Edgecombe, and Tyrese Maxey, while Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 18 points for the Nets. The match provided a glimpse into the adjustments the 76ers will need to make as they aim to enhance their performance ahead of the regular season.

The legendary forward has had a storied career, previously playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent the last eight years. Throughout his career, James has not only secured championships with each of these franchises but has also become the league’s all-time leading scorer. As he prepares for a record-extending 24th NBA season, he has been selected for the NBA All-Star Game in each of the last 22 seasons.

Now, James is focused on helping the 76ers break their 43-year championship drought, a goal that will require patience and teamwork as the season progresses. With a strong commitment to his new team, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this chapter unfolds for one of basketball's greatest players.
