Governor Abiodun cautions Ogun transport unions against fare increases
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged transport unions to avoid arbitrary fare hikes, emphasizing the need to prioritize commuters.

In a recent rally held at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun addressed transport unions, urging them not to impose arbitrary fare increases on commuters. This warning came during an event where nine transport unions expressed their support for Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections.
Governor Abiodun highlighted the significant investments made by his administration in the transport sector, including the construction and reconstruction of over 1,700 kilometres of roads and the establishment of a new airport. He stated that these developments were aimed at creating a conducive environment for transport operators while also benefiting the citizens of Ogun State.
"Now, I am asking you as your governor, having done all this for you, we not only expect you to make money from it, but also to use your sector for the benefit of our citizens. Do not allow them to suffer. Do not increase transport prices arbitrarily," Abiodun emphasized.
The transport unions involved in the endorsement of Adeola included the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and several others. Aare Tiwalade Akingbade, the chairman of the planning committee and State Secretary of RTEAN, described the collective endorsement as a historic moment, marking the first time these unions have jointly supported a governorship candidate.
Adeola, in his response, assured the unions and the public that he would continue the developmental initiatives started by Abiodun. He expressed confidence that Ogun residents are on the brink of experiencing unprecedented growth. "I can tell you that the people of Ogun State are about to witness the biggest development in the history of this state," Adeola stated, promising to reject mediocrity and prioritize the state's progress over personal interests.
Alhaji Shamsudeen Apelogun, the National President of ACOMORAN, underscored the importance of transport unions as key players in the state's economy. He urged union members to carefully evaluate candidates' track records before making electoral decisions, emphasizing that their choices could significantly impact the future of Ogun State's transport sector and economy.
The governor's appeal comes at a crucial time as the state gears up for the elections, with expectations high for both the transport unions and the candidates to prioritize the welfare of the citizens amidst ongoing economic challenges.
