Family accuses University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital of negligence after sister's death
A woman has publicly condemned UPTH for alleged negligence leading to her sister's death.

A woman has taken to social media to express her outrage against the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Rivers State, accusing the facility of negligence that she claims led to her sister's death. In a heartfelt and emotional video that has since gone viral, the woman detailed her sister's harrowing experience in the hospital's emergency ward, where she alleges that her sister was left unattended for several days despite her critical condition.
According to the woman, they arrived at the emergency ward on a Thursday, but as her sister's health deteriorated, no medical staff attended to her. She recounted how her sister was in visible pain, repeatedly asking for medical assistance, specifically for a drip. "Thank you. God bless you. Thanks for the negligence. Thanks for not caring. We came here since Thursday. Since Thursday we came to emergency ward. Since that Thursday no doctor has attended to us. My sister was crying all through yesterday," she stated in the video.
The woman further alleged that when they sought help from doctors present in the emergency ward, they were met with indifference. She claimed that the doctors expressed fatigue and a need for rest, rather than attending to her sister’s urgent medical needs. "Even on Thursday that we came to the emergency ward, we saw some doctors here. Doctors that think that they have their own lives in their hands. We called them, please come. All they could say, I'm tired, I need rest," she said.
In her emotional plea, she emphasized that her sister had shown a strong desire to live, stating, "My sister never wanted to die. Never wanted to die. But the will of God has been done." The woman's accusations have sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many users expressing their sympathies and calling for accountability from the hospital.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the quality of healthcare services at UPTH, particularly in emergency situations. The hospital has yet to respond to these allegations, and the family is demanding answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of their loved one. As the story continues to gain traction online, many are calling for a thorough investigation into the claims of negligence at the facility.
