Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, widely known as KOK, has issued a strong message to Ghanaian actors regarding their fee negotiations in the film industry. Speaking in Accra, Ghana, where he arrived for a movie production, Kanayo expressed his concerns over some Ghanaian actors demanding to be paid the same fees as their Nigerian counterparts.

Kanayo emphasized that actors should focus on their individual value and negotiate their fees accordingly, rather than comparing themselves to others. He stated, "I am KOK. I was among the founding fathers. You now wake up in Ghana… They call KOK to come and act in Ghana; you Ghanaian boy, will now insist they pay you the same fees as me."

He highlighted the existence of a hierarchy within the movie industry, suggesting that not all actors are on the same level when it comes to their market worth. Kanayo advised his Ghanaian colleagues to refrain from equating their fees with those of established actors like himself. Instead, he urged them to negotiate their own compensation based on their unique contributions to the project.

The actor further elaborated on the issue, revealing that it had surfaced during the production he was about to commence in Ghana. He mentioned that he was prepared to disclose the names of some Ghanaian actors involved in this practice but was persuaded not to do so.

Kanayo's remarks come at a time when the film industries in Nigeria and Ghana are increasingly collaborating on various projects. However, the differences in pay scales have become a point of contention. The actor's comments serve as a reminder that each actor's worth should be assessed independently, rather than through comparisons with others.

As the film industry continues to evolve, Kanayo's advice may resonate with many actors who seek to establish their own identities and value in the competitive landscape of African cinema.
